Public Spaces of the Historic City Center of Brno - SQUARES

Changes of physical, functional and social structure of the city as a result of the group of variously interrelated changes and events that are fundamentally participate in the formation of the image of the urban development. This doctoral thesis is based on research of the historical city center - squared. First part is focuses on the historical development of urban texture of the inner city of Brno and its squares. We are talking about Square of Freedom, Vegetable Market, Dominican square, Jacobs square, Capuchins square and Šilingrovo square. Based on individual characteristics, describing the emergence of morphological and functional changes in Brno square was created urban classification of basic types of square. City of Brno, as the capital city of region has a significant position in the structure of settlements. This fact has become one of the key aspects for the selection of examples of European cities and their squares. The second part of the thesis is based on comparative studies of different types of historical squares. In order to define the value of public spaces, it is necessary to look at the public places of historical perspective and deal with the causes that led to the decline of the importance and role of public spaces. Austrian capital cities of region (Graz, Linz, Klagenfurt and Salzburg) will be examined with regard to similar climatic conditions and a common cultural and historical context of the city. Based on urban patterns and graphic diagrams of each square are observed inner relationships between shapes of square, form, function and location of the position of an artwork. Research areas are also focused on comparing aspects of transport, green space, functional use, visual unit and social activities. The public space is shaped by a set of characteristics that promote diversity and interdependence of functions. For a better interpretation of the results have been established two benchmarks - symbol of identification with the place and the Magnet (function and filling space). The objective of the thesis is to define an aspects and elements of space which were involved in square use.

The aim of the work is to design the completion of the block in the historic center of Ostrava in a place called Kostelní náměstí. The work deals with the topic of appropriate integration of contemporary architecture into the historic city center with the choice of the right functions to revitalize this locality. The problem of the city center is quantity of gaps in the historical city core, a few attractive features for people, shifting the focus of interest to the shopping center Nova Karolina and problematic relations between private owners and the city council.

The aim of the thesis is to design a new urban structure with a connection to the historical center and complement the existing historical buildings. The addressed area is located in the historic center, which is also a city monument zone. There is a large number of heritage-protected buildings, which are also dominant. A large part of the buildings was bombed at the end of World War II. The proposal tries to respect the existing development and at the same time complement it so that it is similar to the structure of the city before the bombing. Furthermore, the creation of boundaries for the division of public and private space, the creation of public space for people, not cars, to make the Rokytná River embankment more accessible and attractive together with the reconstruction of an almost unused industrial area. The proposal also includes the return of the city hall to the main square. The newly proposed buildings are mainly residential in nature.
Design of a contemporary urban district in the context of a historic city - urban study

The aim of the thesis is to design a high quality timeless urban district or part of the city, in relation to the existing historic city. The area in question is located in the historic centre, which is also a conservation area. The site contains both urban landmarks and historic buildings. However, most of the buildings were built after 1945, when the town was largely bombed out. The main idea of the design is to respect the existing structure. The design complements the existing buildings and creates new blocks that clearly define public and private space. Other elements include making public spaces more attractive, revitalising traffic areas and improving pedestrian infrastructure. The newly proposed development is predominantly residential in nature and should increase interest in living in the city for young people and businesspeople.
Development of the construction of residential properties in the town of Polička

The main task of this thesis is to describe the development of construction of residential real estates in Polička. It is about capturing a building development of residential real estates since the city's foundation to the present. The thesis describes the construction, large buildings and apartment complexes. It shows how the city was developed and how the city grew. The first part describes the history of the site to the present days. In the second part I describe several buildings and housing complexes characteristic for the city. I try to explain the development of construction in different periods by looking into these objects. At the last part I deal with the current land use plan and the possibilities of further construction. I mention maps of the area, historical and contemporary photographs of selected residential properties and important buildings in my thesis.

The assignment of this diploma thesis is the design of a compact urban structure in the town of Moravský Krumlov. The thesis is divided into an analytical part and a subsequent urban planning study. First the analytical part deals with the comprehension of the town itself. Hereby one outcome is that the region of focus is the historic town center as well as the adjacent industrial area which is located in the southern part of the headland surrounded by the meander of the Rokytná River. Within the urban planning study, the construction within the historic town center is mainly focused on a vacant area, whereas in the industrial area part a new quarter by the river is proposed. The area of the historic town center is characterised by the arched meander of the Rokytná River. Together with the significant slope of the terrain and the proximity of the large industrial area, the town core lacks on connectivity between the historic town center and the surrounding buildings. The aim of the developed proposal is to remove these barriers and to return priority to the inhabitants and visitors. Here among other aspects, especially pedestrians are brought into focus.

The thesis assignment is a proposal for urban interventions in the city of Moravský Krumlov. The urban study focuses on the historical core of the city, the adjacent production area, and the bus terminal, all of which are situated within the meander of the Rokytná river. The diploma thesis consists of an analytical and a design part. The analytical part comprehensively analyzes Moravský Krumlov, with a specific emphasis on the area under consideration. The design part explores various interventions in the historical core, presents a vision for the production area that integrates it with the city, and addresses the bus terminal. The proposed interventions take into account factors such as walking distances, architectural diversity, seamless integration with the surroundings, and an appropriate architectural expression based on the nature of each intervention.
